Celtic’s winter signing Timothy Weah has expressed his pleasure after contributing towards the club’s triumph over St Johnstone over the weekend. The Hoops were left frustrated for most part of the game before Weah made the difference with a goal and an assist in the final 15 minutes where he came off the bench.

Speaking after the game, the Paris Saint-Germain loanee was pleased with the contribution despite coming on during the final stages of the game. He added that he has no concerns being a back-up option off the bench and he is keen to garner as much experience as possible at the early phase of his professional career.

He said: “It’s an incredible feeling to come into a hard game and score, but the assist was more important for me. It’s my first of the season and to get it at such an important time was amazing. The manager said it was my turn to go on the field and try to help the team no matter what age you are. Age is just a number and I’m really happy to be able to come in and influence the game. But, overall, it was a team effort and it’s good to get that experience because going into other games you know what you have to do. It’s a learning experience.”

With the result, Celtic managed to restore the six-point advantage over Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership and they have the opportunity to maintain the lead when they entertain Hibernian at Parkhead in midweek. Thereafter, they have another game against St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup fifth round after which they are scheduled to face Valencia in the first leg of the Europa League last 16 on Valentine’s day.

With the congested schedule, Weah would no doubt have the opportunity to impress from the starting line-up and it will be interesting to see whether he can take the chance with both hands by continuing to contribute towards the scoresheet.
