Former Celtic striker Craig Bellamy has stated that Belgian outfit Anderlecht tried to lure Ange Postecoglou to the club just before he was named the Celtic manager last summer. Welshman talked about Anderlecht and Postecoglou while he was on the Central Club podcast recently. According to him, Anderlecht manager and Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany wanted the current Celtic boss to join up with him and his coaching staff at Anderlecht.
Bellamy stepped down from hisassistant manager’s position at Anderlecht as he cited mental health as the reason behind his decision.
Kompany is highly thought of by Bellamy as revealed by the Welshman himself during his exclusive interview with the aforementioned media outlet. Bellamy praised Kompany before adding that he wanted to add Postecoglou to his coaching staff last summer just before the ex-Australian senior national team boss became the Celtic manager.
Postecoglou has done a very good job as the Celtic manager and he has been able to lead the club to the top of the Scottish Premiership log. Postecoglou has been able to dethrone Rangers from the Scottish Premiership summit this year. Celtic had won the last nine Scottish Premiership titles and they were eyeing a tenth straight title before Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard stopped the quest for a tenth successive title as he led Rangers to win the title last season.
At the start of the current Scottish Premiership season, Rangers were favourites to retain their League title, but that has changed in the last few weeks thanks to the impact of Postecoglou at Celtic. Postecoglou has made Celtic the favourites over the last few weeks.
