RODGERS HAIL UCL PLAYOFF QUALIFICATION

Brendan Rodgers is excited that his Scottish top flight champions’ side qualified for the Champions League playoff stage after seeing off Rosenborg. James Forrest handed them the required points with his stunner in the 69th minute.

Celtic were not at their best in the first leg at home. They were not still at their best away but they were more spirited than their hosts, getting the decisive goal late in the second half. The Scotland international went agonizingly close earlier in the game before he finally got his sole goal to hand Celtic a 1-0 aggregate win.

Rodgers praised the performance of the team despite the limitations ahead of the duel.

“It was a big performance. Take away the win, what was important for me was the maturity. This time last year I was going into these games with a hope that we could go through, to try to find a way.

“To come out here and play to that level with that composure – everyone was talking about the pressure of the game so to play that way was sensational, really,” the former Reds boss said. Continue reading “RODGERS HAIL UCL PLAYOFF QUALIFICATION”

Brendan Rodgers is delighted by Celtic’s draw against City

On September 28, Celtic received Manchester City at the Celtic Park as both clubs had to face off for a Champions League and this match concluded with each side scoring 3 goals as the scoreboard displayed 3-3 at the end of it all.

This match was one of the most exciting Champions League games in recent times as plenty of goals were scored and there was not any club that had the clear upper hand.

After everything was said and done, both teams had to settle with snatching 1 point each out of this game and even though Celtic FC needed a victory in order for them to begin their march for a higher spot in Group C of the Champions League which consists of: Barcelona, Manchester City, Borussia Monchengladbach and Celtic.

This draw was still a fairly positive result for Celtic as they managed to hold their ground against one of the favorites of their group and Brendan Rodgers had a few things to say after the match was over as the 43 year old Northern Irish manager said:

“I can’t criticize the team, but there are always elements we can be better in. We were brilliant, the pressing and the energy. Every time we went forward we looked like we could score.Apart from the Barcelona game these players have been operating at a high level this season. Now, to do it against that team, it was a magnificent performance. Continue reading “Brendan Rodgers is delighted by Celtic’s draw against City”

CELTIC YOUNGSTER TARGET LEAGUE CUP GLORY

Scottish giant Celtic lost out twice to Ross County and Rangers in the semi final of the League Cup.

Kieran Tierney, who won the Young Player of the Year award last term, says that his target this year is to go all the way in the League Cup with the club.

Tierney was outstanding last season. He played in more than 30 games for the club, enjoying his breakthrough season. The League Cup miss was a huge miss in his story. Celtic take on Alloa Athletic in the game before a semi final of the domestic cup on Wednesday, and Tierney wants the club to make up for past losses.

“We want to win a cup. It comes quickly so if we win this we are in the semi final stage. We just want to get out and do the job. There were a few lows in Europe last year and the semi finals weren’t great. But it was an experience for me because I had never played in either,” the youngster started out. He went on to add that he felt horrible when they were defeated in the semi final, and that he never wants “to feel like that again.” Continue reading “CELTIC YOUNGSTER TARGET LEAGUE CUP GLORY”

Bertie Auld believes that Celtic should appoint Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane as manager

Celtic legend Bertie Auld has urged the team to appoint managerial duo Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane as manager for the club.

He believes that major changes are needed in the team if they want to compete not only in Scotland but also in Europe.

According to him, Martin O’Neill has the tactical knowledge and awareness to drive the team forward and that Roy Keane will provide the discipline needed to keep the team together and motivated to achieve great things.

However, with both men committed with the Republic of Ireland national team until the end of Euros, it might be difficult for them to get involved with Celtic this season especially with the Hoops participating in the Champions League as early as July.

Bertie Auld has advised however against the fact of signing Martin O’Neill alone as he thinks that there needs to be some sort of balance in the team. He has also urged the Celtic board to release fund for the new manager to rebuild the team. Continue reading “Bertie Auld believes that Celtic should appoint Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane as manager”

Callum McGregor expects to make it for Celtic soon

Callum McGregor hopes that he will be in the team for Celtic in next month’s game against their fierce rivals Rangers. He missed the last year semi-final game against Rangers and would want this time to be on the side.

McGregor told reporters that he is keen to participate in the big games and that games against Rangers are always special. He stated that his best memory as a ball boy was the goal scored by Thomas Gravesen in a game against Rangers. He is however determined to make his own memory on the pitch should he get a chance in the team for the next game.

The midfielder who was convicted of drunk driving recently missed several games as he waited for the court decision. During this time, he received full support from Ronny Deila, the Celtic manager. Ronny Deila is on the journey of reinforcing his team

Ronny Deila has set himself the task of improving his team which can help in their quest of securing the Scottish Premiership title for the 5th successive season and one of the ways that Deila is going to be upgrading his squad is by signing new players to the team.

A few of the players that are rumored to be in the radar of Ronny Deila are Wout Weghorst of Heracles and Eibar’s Aleksandar Pantic.

Aleksandar Pantic is a Serbian defender who is currently performing for SD Eibar on loan from Villareal. Pantic has had a mixed season with Eibar as the central-defender used to be a consistent starter for the club but has recently had to settle with a place on the sidelines as an unused substitute.

If Pantic continues to struggle trying to land a spot in the main team of Eibar, he could be tempted on making a move away from the Spanish club where his chances of landing a role in the first squad is possible to be bigger and better than what it currently is.

Wout Weghorst is another one of the potential targets of Celtic’s Ronny Deila. Weghorst is currently performing for Heracles and at the young age of 23, he has already attracted the attention of other clubs including Cardiff City. Kenny Jackett is expecting to see much more from Wolverhampton

Wolverhampton collected their first 3 points of the season after defeating Blackburn Rovers but Kenny Jackett was not fully convinced by the performances of his players as the manager said that his team still has a lot of other areas where they need to improve on.

Kenny Jackett voiced his thoughts after the victory of Wolverhampton as he said: “To come away to Blackburn and get three points is great but we also feel there is more to come. We had some very good spells of possession and a threat up front’’

“But there were other times when balls into their front man we didn’t follow in and they were turning and shooting too easily with the shooting power they have got. We were disappointed with that and could have done better with those situations defensively’’

Jackett wants to base the playing style of his team around having sufficient possession as this allows the players enough time on the ball for them to play freely and ultimately score goals which is the eventual objective.

Wolverhampton Wanderers snatched the 7th spot of the English Championship League in the previous season but they are now one of the favorites of securing a top position and being promoted to the Premier League.  Kenny Jackett is well aware of all the expectations and pressure that he and his team have to cope with this time around but the English manager is certain that they will be able to live up to all the hype and deliver in the big stage.
